I live near the corner of Newark and Force Rd. in Attica. So far I know I of no high speed providers in our area. The phone co. and cable co even have the old lines so nothing here - the closest we get it is a dial up of 53kbps -wo who! I’ve asked when someone’s going to upgrade the lines and I get the run around. Seriously the neighbors (just everyone I talk to out here) and I are DESPERATE for highspeed. I know we can get hughes net but is there any other option out here?
qix has a tower on Lk. George that should cover you if you can get them to return your calls - http://lapeerinternet.com/attica/qix
JJ, I live at newark and summers and cant get crap either but I do use sprintpcs its a little expensive at 60 a month but what are you to do when there is nothing else. you use a novatel 740 i think it plugs into your usb hub and it uses the cell towers so far i love it not as good as cable but you get a decent 1mb download i can watch youtube and other videos with no interuptions and it goes from website to website real quick WAY better than dial up i would compare it to the other providers in the area and yes qix.net sucks they dont answer calls and seem like they dont care about getting business
I am thinking of going with this Mobile broadband from PC Lapeer @ 59.99 a month then I will go buy this new Magic Jack for our telephone service for 19.99 a year…and then get a converter box and do away with Charter and all the people they send you to in India once and for all. I think this should save us a good 70 bucks a month! Any feedback…or horror stories on this plan?
Hi, I live around klam road and burnside in marathon twsp., and am looking for high speed but not having much luck, anyone in this area have any luck I would appreciate some input, thanks!
Regions Internet Service recently acquired Fusion High Speed. Coverage areas include Marathon and Deerfield Townships which are located in Lapeer County. http://www.fusionhighspeed.com/
Hello. I live in Lapeer County. Specifically, I live just about 1.5 mile north of the village of Dryden. Can anyone recommend a wireless high speed provider for this area? Thanks.
Hi all:
I live on winslow rd. north of newark & would like wireless internet. Any help out there ??
Thanks
I live in Metamora and like the rest of you, Charter offers nothing to it’s Lapeer County customers. I’m so tired of dialup I could gak coathangers. I even wrote a letter to the LA View but you get nothing in terms of WHY we still live in the stoneage here. Anyone know why we get no service here? Is it Charters fault or the townships or what?
@Lin731 … have you tried Air Advantage?

I also live off Winslow N of Newark and am currently using qix.net. I’ve been using them about 3 months, am currently on my second service outage, and download speeds vary from about 75-90k down to 10-15k, usually getting the poor speeds in the evening. I’ve been down since about 9 pm last night and waiting for a call back from Doug. I just put in requests for info from Air Advantage and BigTube, but am not getting my hopes up. Looks like it may soon be Hughes!
I live in the village of Dryden and I have Charter for my phone and internet. I have no problem with the service, it’s fast and reliable but I think they are expensive. I pay about $105 per month. I think installation 3 years ago may have been about $100.
I just moved to west barnes lk rd only option right now is hughes net…regional cant get signal with all the trees…are there any other options…hughes net is expensive and sub-par
I live 4 miles East of Lapeer on Imlay city rd (m-21) does anyone have a suggestion on high speed internet. Real tired of dialup
My sister lives on Millville Rd. about 5 miles north of Lapeer city, she can only get dialup and it’s crazy. This is 2010,Come on!Charter told her it would cost $1800 to hook to the Road with cable line, and dosen’t appear to be DSL even.Satellite is too expensive. What are people doing sitting on their hands?Come git after it,lets go Lapeer, time to catch up I’d say!
I can get Charter Internet here in Elba Township but the price has gone up tremendously, so I’m looking for an alternative. Has anyone had any experience with HughesNet satellite Internet? I don’t want some fly-by-night to install a dish! I wish there were more alternatives for Internet; I couldn’t care less about having cable TV.
@eliewriter - No satellite internet provider will come close to the speed and reliability you have now. Satellite will limit your overall use, and their advertised speeds are nothing compared to what you actually see. Keep Charter would be my recommendation. Anyone disagree?
PLEASE do not get hughes satellite omg it’s been a nightmare!! My two year contract finally ended in April, and because I haven’t renewed my contract while desperately searching for another option, they disabled my modem and told mr it would cost me $125 for a service man to come out and swap out my modem because I am no longer under their “warranty” and I’d have to sign another 2 year contract I said NO WAY I’m sure cavemen had better Internet service than i do, it’s expensive and if it rains, gets cloudy, windy or snows forget getting a connection and when you do get a connection don’t stay on line too long or watch utube, use a web cam, or a missed episode of your favorite show you will exceed your fair access policy and get kicked off the Internet for 24 hours!! That’s right grounded from Internet use!! So now all I have is my iPhone I don’t get why we can’t have real Internet I’d chew off my own foot for charter right now!!
I have been sending requests to AT & T for their u-verse service but they said there wasn’t enough potential business in the area to warrant installing it! My daughter pays $85 a month for high speed and cable tv with no extra channels-if anyone is interested go to their website and check availability-then fill out a request to be notified if it becomes available. They said if they get enough requests they will look into the cost effectiveness of this and since there are no other providers it is a possibility. They just need some indication they’d get enough business to make it worthwhile. I pay almost $500 a month for a T line since I run a home based business near Newark and 24 and they told me when I bought the place DSL was available. What a shock to the budget!!!!
I live on Hall rd. & Sutton (Dryden mailing address, Almont twp). We use a Verizon Air card and get great results, only problem it’s $60/mnth.
Charter Cable is 500 ft. away from my house on Sutton rd. and they won’t come down our road unless I get every house to sign up, what a crock!
I guess they don’t need our business that bad.
Had QIX Net{VARY BAD!}Now I Use Virgin Mobil Works Well At Newark & Bray Rd
Been using Bigtube for about 4 years now. Live in the North Branch area. At first was using the Tower at Deanville now they switched me to the Tower in North Branch. Speed is good enough for what I need. And I hardly ever get an outage.
Admin I am curious as to what plan and your location is to get that kind of Speed from Bigtube.
We live on Mitchell Lake Rd, just 1 1/2 miles south of Air Advantage’s tower in Lum. We had them come out last year but they said we couldn’t get a strong enough signal because there were too many trees between us & the tower. It’s ridiculous. I’ve heard that even people just around the corner from their tower can’t get a decent signal. It would probably help if their tower was taller than the average utility pole. We’re desperate for high-speed but can’t afford $60+/month.
@Big_Jar we’re on the Business Service
I live on Skelton Rd, and I can’t get diddly for high speed. Anything for me??
